| Running shoes may be helping to break marathon records, but they continue to make a negative impact on the environment. Over 23 billion pairs of shoes are made worldwide every year. About 300 million of those pairs end up in landfill. Way Running is setting out to help solve this problem. The Sustainable Runner is a new type of running shoe that combines running performance with minimalist design. The shoe was designed to be neutral, and even though it may not look like a performance running shoe, it has everything you need for a great run. There's enough support and stability to keep you going for long runs if you need it - without sacrificing comfort. The upper is an engineered combination of natural fibers maximizing their primary performance benefits: Tencel is structural and resilient, great for durability. While merino wool has superior temperature regulation and moisture control, the midsole is a completely new type of proprietary foam. It's made in a way that makes the material more recyclable - which makes it perfect for recovery. The rest of the shoe is a combination of eco-friendly and recycled materials. There are no big logos to be found, no paint to make them loud. No gimmicky features and technologies - all done in an effort to be as minimal as possible.
