Hi eino-
Have you ever been to a blogger blog and wondered how they got their own custom blog url? Not only do they look much better but you get your very own domain name! Not sure what I mean? Take a look:
Default blogger urls look like this: revolution-church.blogspot.com <-- yucky url
Custom blogger urls look like this: www.mycooldomain.com <-- nice personalized url
How cool is that? No more having to tell your friends that your blog url is blah blah blah dot blogspot.com. A real domain name makes your site much more professional and easier to remember too!
It's also important to have your own domain name because someday you'll most likely outgrow Google Blogger and want to move your blog to a more flexible hosting provider. If you have been using the default blogger url, you will not be able to transfer the domain.
Don't get me wrong, you'll still be able to keep and move all your blog content -- you'll just lose all the "link juice" you worked so hard to obtain and the benefits from ranking well in search engines. It's something Blogger should tell people upfront because it's really important.
So, I highly recommend buying your own domain name and then setting it up in Google Blogger. A domain name only costs you a few bucks a year and is quite easy to setup in Blogger. There are dozens of sites you can buy a domain from and I list my favorite sites below.
First you'll want to find an available domain name. Then buy it from one of the recommended providers I've listed below. Next configure your Blogger site to start using that domain. That's it.
So what are you waiting for? The longer you wait, the worse off you'll be. Even if your site is a few months or years old, now is the time to get everything setup!
