I just wanted to say thank you soooo much for the kind email and tag that you sent me on the birth of my new Grandchild. As a first time Grandma I tell you I am in love all over again with babies! It is great. I picked them up for Thanksgiving dinner with me and to spend a few days and I didnt want to put her down and it tore my heart out to watch her leave. No you dont know me, but I can tell that you have a kind heart and I wouldnt mind keeping in touch. I am behind in emails so I dont know if Gail shared the pictures I sent to Gail or not. But if she didnt, just let me know and I would like to keep in touch with you and send you a few pictures of her. Again thanks so much. Hugs and blessings,

Carol

if you are ripping one it should come out as an avi not a vcd or iso.. maybe
I misunderstood your question but when ever I rip a movie it always comes
out an AVI or I can change it to a different format like mpeg but most rip
to an AVI.. I hope this answered your question... Crazyhorse.

Re: Question regarding ripping DVDs to AVI

No, you didn´t misunderstand
my question, but perhaps I didn´t supply enough information.

When I first logged onto "now_showing"
3 or 4 weeks ago, someone requested a copy of `Chicago´. I have it in my
library, and responded that when I could figure out how to process I would
upload it.

Well, in general I did that
(except I have yet to post `Chicago´.

I ripped the DVD with Magic
DVD Ripper, which I will refer to here as `MDR".

MDR has the option of
outputting several video options but as required by "now_showing" I selected
AVI. My question that you responded to was what MDR refers to as "Split Mode",
and has the option of:

Infinite

74 Min VCD (730M)

80 Min VCD (790M)

74 Min ISO DataCD (650M)

80 Min ISO DataCD (700M)

Custom Size

By Chapter

The numbers in parentheses refer
to file size.

My first experience at
ripping was `Chicago´ and I selected `Infinite´ from MDR´s menu, and the
resulting file size was roughly 1.3GB as I recall and took over 5 hours to rip,
but whatever it was it, it was too large for my "Free" Pando subscription to
post and has to be re-ripped.

Last night after posting my
question, I ripped "American History X" that was requested by "MissyZLuvsRanda&Brady". This time I selected the output as "80
Min VCD (790M)". MDR split it into 2 files the first is 792MB [under the "Free"
Pando limitations] and 1 hr, 22 m, 40 sec long. Total processing time was 4 hrs
and 35 min. All seems to be well, and I will attempt to post it as soon as I
find the instructions on how to post to `now_showing´.

Sorry for the long detailed
post, It was not my intent to "exercise" anyone, but I guess I have answered my
own question.

For what it is worth, I have
in excess of 3,500 DVDs in my collection. A few are originals, most are DVD
copies, some video capture (broadcast TV, DISH Network, or DirecTV) and a few
are VideoDisc or VHS tape transfers. I don´t want to be a leech on `now_showing´,
but with 5 hours ripping time I will probably only respond to requests that
have no other alternative.

Thanks for your response.

ClayG

ok got ya.. I have magic dvd ripper but really don't use it.. I like Acala
dvd ripper much better it is faster and works on everything I have found so
far.. it also has some cool features I like that most don't have.. it kind
of works like a vcr I guess..lol. you play the movie using it and just hit
the record button and it will rip only that part of the movie or start at
the beginning and it will rip the whole thing.. it makes it easier to rip
only what you want and give you the option to edit if you wanted to do so by
cutting it down or taking parts out of it.. it is also a lot faster then
magic. I can rip a movie in about 2 hours or under. as for the info you
supplied about the split mode I have no idea as I don't use that program but
I know with Acala it does not ask you stuff like that.. I did have to buy
Acala though to get the full version of it but someone may have a copy of it
with a friend if your interested in trying it..
if you do rip a movie and it is to big to send in with free pando you can
always use HJ split to split the movie in half and then you can send it in 2
parts.. the person that gets it will have to use HJ split to rejoin it to
get the full movie though but it is easy to use and a free program..
as for movies I have tons I lost track after 4000 but my connection is so
slow that I can't upload anything on it or it will take me weeks to do so..
I can upload a 200 mb file and it will take me 2-3 days to get it fully
uploaded so for the most part I don't bother unless no one else has it
because it takes me so long.. I do all my downloading at my in-laws house
using there computer with a cable connection and use an external hard drive
to get it from there computer to one of my computers.. sorry for the long
reply but I Think I covered everything..lol. if you have anymore questions I
can answer feel free to hit me up on or off list and I will try to help ya
out... Crazyhorse.

if you ripped them they should be in AVI format and that is what you will
want to share and if you want to convert it back to a DVD then all you need
to do is use convertxtodvd and it will convert it back to dvd for you.. you
can also use other programs to convert an AVI to a DVD but convertxtodvd is
the fastest one I have found and you can usually fit 2-3 movies on 1 disc
with it. the rest of the programs are much slower and you will only be able
to fit 1 movie on each disc... I hope this answers your question...

all versions of Nero will do this but if you are wanting to burn dvd's I
would suggest using convertxtodvd instead as it works much better and is
faster then Nero ever thought of.. I use Nero but only for data disc or
music cd's... Crazyhorse.
