Productions feature film starring Hayley Mills in a story about bank robbers
a kidnapping and a mischievous cat. The film was based on the book
Undercover Cat by Gordon and Mildred Gordon and was directed by Robert
Stevenson. The title song was written by the Sherman Brothers and sung by
Bobby Darin. That Darn Cat! was the last of six films Hayley Mills made for
the Disney Studios. It was shot at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank,
California. The film was remade in 1997 starring Christina Ricci and
featured a cameo appearance by Dean Jones.
"That Darn Cat!" can be considered the first in the series of human/animal
buddy caper films (see "K9", "Turner and Hooch", "Oh Heavenly Dog" to name a
few). And it's also one of the funniest.
D.C. is a clever and precocious Siamese who is forever getting into mischief
but who forever remains one of filmdom's coolest cats. But when D.C. (for
Darn Cat" - though D.C. is also an acronym for something unspeakable in a
Disney Film!) becomes an unsuspecting witness to a bank robbery/kidnapping,
he finds himself the FBI's most valued informant.
The cast of this of this cool Disney caper is sophisticated, intelligent and
frequently hilarious. Hayley Mills, as D.C.'s overly-zealous owner, has
finally graduated to womanhood, while still maintaining the girlish charm
that captured the hearts of Pollyan-ites and Parent Trappers everywhere. Her
lines of dialog are extensive, and though her voice begins to grate after a
while, she is both smart and quite ballsy for a teen of the early 70s. Dean
Jones as unflappable FBI Agent Kelso manages to display a dignity, wit and
charm not usually present in the straight man of a Disney Comedy (Who else
would remain calm as the little beast nearly tears him to shreds, covers him
with ink, and leads him on three separate chases in pursuit of the elusive
wild goose?).
Bad guys Neville Brand and Frank "The Riddler" Gorshin simply ooze evil when
they are coolly discussing the potential fate of hostage Grayson Hall. Even
now as I watch this movie, I really BELIEVE they would do serious bodily
harm to this poor woman, in much the same manner that Roddy McDowell (as a

Pillow Talk is a 1959 romantic comedy film directed by Michael Gordon. It

Cool Hand Luke is a 1967 American drama film starring Paul Newman and
directed by Stuart Rosenberg. The screenplay was adapted by Donn Pearce and
Frank Pierson from the novel by Pearce. The film features George Kennedy,
Strother Martin, J.D. Cannon, and Morgan Woodward.
Newman stars in the title role as Luke, a prisoner in a Florida prison camp
who refuses to submit to the system. His inability to conform drives the
plot of the movie, in the same vein as characters such as Winston Smith from
Nineteen Eighty-Four, Randle McMurphy from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,
Number Six from the British television series The Prisoner (aired during the

culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it for

Walters and produced by Joe Pasternak, with Martin Melcher (Day's husband)
as associate producer. The screenplay, loosely inspired by the book of the
same name by Jean Kerr, a collection of humorous essays, was by Isobel
Lennart. The film also features Janis Paige, Spring Byington, Richard Haydn,
Patsy Kelly, and Jack Weston.
In 1960 MGM released Please Don't Eat the Daisies, a domestic comedy
starring Doris Day and David Niven as parents dealing with the ensuing chaos
that occurs from their move to the rustic countryside from New York City.
Doris Day was already a household name in America when Please Don't Eat the
Daisies was released; her reputation as a gifted comedic actress had been
confirmed in previous films like Teacher's Pet (1958), and Pillow Talk
(1959) and her persona stayed true to form for Daisies. Yet, while there is
an undeniable chemistry between Day and co-star David Niven on-screen, the
two actors rarely interacted once the cameras had stopped rolling. In Niven
s case, there was a reason for his aloof behavior; during filming, he had
separated from his wife, Hjordis, an event that caused the actor
considerable anguish. Richard Haydn, who played a supporting role in Please
Don't Eat the Daisies, recalled (in The Other Side of the Moon: The Life of
David Niven by Sheridan Morley) "a rather distraught David on the set. It so
happened that we were both called for the first day of shooting but he was
terribly nervous and that whole day's work had to be done again later."
Producer Joe Pasternak, who had worked with Niven twice before, was now
observing a markedly insecure man, and devised a way to deal with his
growing self-doubt. In Morley's aforementioned biography, Pasternak recalled
that "David used to keep asking me why I'd hired him when there were so many
better actors around so I said, 'Look, I'll tell you what I'll do. Every day
I have to look at the rushes, and if you're any good I'll give you a quarter
