Plot summary
The film's story is about a backwoodsman named Adam Pontipee and his new bride Milly, who marries him after knowing him for only a few hours. On returning with him to his cabin in the mountains, Milly is surprised to learn that Adam is one of seven lumberjack brothers living in the same cabin. The brothers have been named alphabetically from the Old Testament: Adam, Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel, Ephraim, Frank (short for Frankincense, the Old Testament having no names beginning with F- due to the Greek transcription of Hebrew using "Ph" instead, as in Phineas), and Gideon. All of the brothers have red hair and are well over six feet tall, except Gideon, who is younger and shorter than his brothers.

Milly teaches Adam's rowdy, ill-behaved younger brothers manners and social mores, including how to dance. At first, the brothers have a hard time changing from their "mountain man" ways, but eventually they come to see that the only way they will get a girl of their own is if they do things Milly's way. They are able to test their new manners at a barn-raising, where they meet six girls they likeâ€"Dorcas, Ruth, Martha, Liza, Sarah and Aliceâ€"and, fortunately, the girls like the brothers too. However, the girls already have suitors from the town, who jealously taunt the brothers into fighting during the barn-raising, and, although the brothers do not start the fight, they are banished from the town by the townspeople because of it.

Winter arrives, and the six younger brothers mope for their girls. Adam reads his brothers the story of "Sobbin' Women" (a pun on the Sabine Women) and tells them that they should stop moping around and go get their girls (see bride kidnapping). The brothers kidnap the girls, and then cause an avalanche so that they can't be followed by the townspeople. They have, however, forgotten to kidnap a preacher. Milly is furious at Adam, and as the girls are upset at having been kidnapped, it is unlikely they would consent to marriage anyhow. Milly consigns the brothers to the barn while the girls are living in the house. Adam, somewhat put out by Milly's reaction, leaves for the family's cabin to live out the winter by himself.

Months pass, and eventually it is spring. The girls have now fallen in love with the brothers, who are now allowed to court the girls. Milly gives birth to a daughter, Hannah (picking up the Biblical-alphabetical pattern). Gideon rides to the cabin to inform Adam about his daughter's arrival and asks Adam to come home, but Adam refuses to do so, saying that he would return home when the pass was open once more to traffic.

Adam, who has had time to think about his baby daughter, returns home in the spring. As a newly responsible father, he has become aware of how worried the townspeople would be about what has happened to the girls. Adam intends that the girls be taken back to their homes in the town by his brothers, but his brothers don't want to do so. The girls don't want to return to their homes, either â€" they all want to stay at the farm with their new suitors. When Milly discovers that the girls are not in the house, she mentions this to Adam, and he tells his brothers to go after the girls and bring them back.

Meanwhile, the townspeople arrive, with the intention of taking vengeance against the brothers for the kidnappings. Upon finding the brothers trying to force the girls to return, the fathers get the wrong impression and charge to their daughters' rescue. Then Alice's father, who is a preacher, hears a baby cry in the distance, and worries that the baby might belong to one of the girls. The fighting is sorted out, with the fathers rounding up the brothers and announcing that they intend to hang them. When Alice's father asks the girls whose baby it is, they all decide, simultaneously, to claim the baby as their own. This misinformation gives the girls and the brothers their greatest wish- the townspeople insist that all six couples marry immediately in a shotgun wedding.

In my personal experience, Pando works differently with Win7, but it does work. just requires an additional step

Baby Einstein Videos..an FYI

HI all, I really don't mean to get on a soap box, or tell people what they
should or shouldn't do with their kids, but, just a heads up on those Baby
Einstein dvds, they've been recalled for not working, and possible being
detrimental. Before the responses come back at me, I do have a 7year old
son, 2nd grade with a 3rd grade reading & vocabulary level, most likely from
being read to, and talking to him as much as possible, even if he had no
clue what it was about as an infant, I still talked him. Especially on
those long drives from Rochester to Da Bronx lol.
Jojo

I've said my piece, feel free to email me back offlist so the group doesn't
have to deal wioth the clutter on the subject, thanks for listening.

Baby Einstein Recall: Refunds Offered on Educational DVDs

Oct 26, 2009

The Baby Einstein recall has drawn the attention of parents all over the
world. Under the threat of a class action lawsuit, the Walt Disney Company
has agreed to offer a full refund to anyone who purchased Baby Einstein DVDs
from the leading baby video company in the last five years. Some education
experts say that the refund offer is a tacit admission that the products do
not increase infant intellect.

Baby Einstein videos have been popular among parents and children alike for
more than a decade now. A survey cited recently by *The New York
Times*found that one-third of all American babies from 6 months to 2
years old had
at least one Baby Einstein video.

Titles like *Baby Mozart*, *Baby Shakespeare* and *Baby Galileo* have
enticed parents to purchase Baby Einstein products to educate young children
and encourage advanced development. But there is some debate as to how
educational these products really are.

A recent study of 900
children<http://blogs.wsj.com/juggle/2009/03/05/new-study-finds-that-tv-isnt-so-bad-or-good-for-kids/>found
that there is no evidence of cognitive benefit from watching TV during
the first 2 years of life. In fact, baby DVDs may actually be damaging to
young development. A 2007 study led by Frederick Zimmerman and Dr. Dimitri
Christakis, both at the University of Washington, found that infants learned
six to eight fewer new vocabulary words for every hour of baby DVDs that
were watched than babies who never watched any videos. The most detrimental
effect was seen in babies between 8 and 16 months old.

The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend any TV screen time for
young children under the age of two. The Campaign for a Commercial Free
Childhood (CCFC) also wants parents to avoid plopping children down in front
of a television set. The organization has been leading an ongoing campaign
against deceptive baby video marketing for several years.

In 2006, the organization issued a complaint with the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) against Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby, two of the leading
producers of videos for infants and toddlers, for making false claims about
the educational merit of videos. The FTC decided not to take action against
Baby Einstein because the company agreed to 'take appropriate steps to
ensure that any future advertising claims of educational and/or
developmental benefit for children are adequately substantiated.' In other
words, the company agreed not to call their videos 'educational.'

Unhappy with the FTC's decision, the CCFC continued their campaign,
pressuring the Walt Disney Company (owner of Baby Einstein) to offer full
refunds to people who purchased Baby Einstein videos in the last five years.
Walt Disney has finally agreed to do just that.

The company will refund the current retail value of the DVD ($15.99) to
anyone who purchased a Baby Einstein video between June 5, 2004 and
September 4, 2009. Refunds are limited to four per household. Consumers who
do not want a refund can trade their DVDs in for a Baby Einstein book or
music CD. Twenty-five percent off coupons are also being offered to people
who want to exchange their DVD for a discount on Little Einstein products
purchased from DisneyStore.com.

'We see it as an acknowledgment by the leading baby video company that baby
videos are not educational, and we hope other baby media companies will
follow suit by offering refunds,' said Susan Linn, director of the CCFC.

Read more about the Baby Einstein
refund<http://www.babyeinstein.com/(S(3qnoffi1whnnnt55h2ljk355))/parentsguide/satisfaction/upgrade_us.html>.

Increasing Intellect

If baby DVDs do not increase a child's intellect, what does? According to
Stanley Greenspan, MD, a clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at
George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C. and the
author of *Building Healthy Minds*, newborns to preschoolers need multiple
types of interaction with a caregiver to grow intellectually.

He recommends activities that exercise multiple senses at once, establishing
two-way communication and engaging in activities that build intimacy, trust
and creativity. Greenspan says that these activities can be enhanced with
educational toys and media, but insists that parents should not rely
entirely on DVDs to encourage a baby's development.

To convert a movie you have downloaded to a DVD that you can watch on any
DVD player you need to convert it and then burn it to a DVD. I use ConvertX
to DVD because its very simple. The time it takes depends on the speed of
your computer. If your computer is slow...I suggest you do not run any other
programs while you are working.

Supplies needed:

DVD Burner (Your choice in brand)

Sony 24X Sata DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black AD-7240S-0B
DVD Recorder - SATA - Internal
This is a 24x DVD+/-RW DL SATA Internal Hard Drive.
Part #:
AD-7240S-0B more ..., AD7240S-0B
Sellers Found: 3
Available Since: Apr 8, 2009

Lowest Price: $25.99

DVD-R (you can only record one time..non erasable) or DVD-RW (you can erase
and record again) Discs (Your choice in brand)

Converter Program (This is my choice and the program used in this tutorial)

Downloaded movie or Television show

Couples Retreat DVD Rip
From: Kim
Size: 701MB, 2 files
Expires: Mar. 15, 2010 (?)

Four Midwestern couples embark on a journey to a tropical island resort.
While one of the couples is there to work on their marriage, the other
Three set out to jet ski, spa and enjoy some fun in the sun. They soon
Discover that participation in the resort's couples therapy is not
Optional. Suddenly, their group-rate vacation comes at a price. What
Follows is a hilarious look at real world problems faced by all couples.

Now that you have everything you need (purchased, downloaded, installed etc.
.)

Lets get started:

1. Open your program called ConvertX to DVD

2. Put a DVD-R or DVD-RW in your DVD burner
(highlighted in grey to let me know its ready to burn)

3. Click on the green (+) sign on the right hand side of ConvertX to DVD

4. Browse (another window will pop open for you to browse) to find your
movie you downloaded and double click on the file so it will load into
ConvertX to DVD

6. Click on the (Convert) button down in the right corner it then turns into
the (Cancel) button

7. Converting has started.....and shows the time remaining
Sit back and wait

8. Converting is all most finished.

9. When it burns successfully the program will say..WRITE SUCCESS: Disc
written a new window will open displaying Operation is Complete and your DVD
will be ready. I have mine set to eject when done burning.

10. Test your DVD in your DVD player.

11. Highlight your title set file and click on the red ( x ) to remove your
files so you can add a new file and start all over again.

12. You can also go into the Settings and opt to burn your disc later....and
it will save your converted files in a folder for you so that you can burn
them at another time.

Hope this helps!!

**I am no expert....this is just the way I burn a movie...there may be
better programs out there...that are faster and a easier way to do it. This
is just the way I was showed how to do it.
