How to get a stuck _CD/DVD drive_ (mip://0581c780/default.html#) to open.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:
* Paper Clip
* Stuck CD/DVD Drive

1. Step 1
So you have a CD/DVD stuck in the drive, and the drive won't open. Here is
how to open it.
2. Step 2

CD/DVD Drive
First turn off or unplug the CD/DVD drive. If it is a CD/DVD drive in a
_computer_ (mip://0581c780/default.html#) , then turn the computer off.
3. Step 3

Paper Clip
Get a paperclip and straighten it out.
4. Step 4

Release hole
Find the release hole on the CD/DVD drive. It's a small hole about the
size of a paper clip
5. Step 5

Paper Clip in Release Hole.
Insert Paper Clip into release hole. After the paper clip has went in a
small amount you will feel resistance.
6. Step 6

Drive bay open
Keep pushing the paper clip in until the drive bay opens enough to grab
it, and pull with your fingers. Depending on how stuck the CD/DVD is, will
determine how easy it will be to pull the drive bay open.
7. Step 7
Now just grab the CD/DVD out of the drive, and push the drive bay closed.
_Power_ (mip://0581c780/default.html#) up the system and test the drive
out. It should still work.

Gail

Umm you probably have tried this but just in case. Can you go to the drive
in my computer and right click it and say open drive?

Newegg sells them reasonable, cheaper than a stack of disks.

good luck.

Ok I have redownloaded ConvertXdvd, because I cannot find anything else to
use. It converts everything just fine. Then it looks as though it is
burning fine, but when I check the disk on the DVD player, it says bad disk,
on every single one of them. These are DVD-RW, and that's what I've used
in the past. I don't get it, can anyone tell me what the heck I'm doing
differently? Before the reformat, I was burning them just fine..

Thanks for any help!!

I know this info but thanks anyways.. I build and sell custom gaming systems
so the systems I have are ones I built myself so there is no service
contract with anyone but me but good info for those that have systems
through one of them companies.. I have replaced a lot more than 3 between
all or our computers so I know what your saying about having had to replace
3 in your system.. I have replaced the ones in this tower more times that I
would like to admit to but I guess with as many disc as I burn on here it is
no wonder why I have had to replace it so many times.. Crazyhorse.

Crazyhorse.

if you look at your drive right under the drawer or next to it there is a
very tiny hole, this hole is for opening the drawer when it's stuck, you
open a paper clip and stick it in the tiny hole, it triggers the lock on the
drawer to open.
If you have a service contract on your computer, call the company and they
will send a new disk drive for free. I have dell and had to replace both of
mine and they did it free of charge, even sent a tech to do it for me.
I have replaced 3 lol.....................guess I burned them out! roflmao

LOL. ya I need to but I need a few so I will wait till they will not burn
anymore.. they still burn fine you just have use a paper clip or something
like it to poke in the hole to open the drawer..lol. it is a pain in the ass
but as long as it still burns I can't see spending the kind of money I will
have to spend to replace all of them.. I have 4 computers and all 4 of them
have worn out drawer openers in them..lol. oh and they each have 2 burners
in them so ya that is 8 total burners that need to be replaced so it is not
going to be cheap but one day they will all get replaced when the will not
burn anymore..

Ok I have redownloaded ConvertXdvd, because I cannot find anything else to
use. It converts everything just fine. Then it looks as though it is
burning fine, but when I check the disk on the DVD player, it says bad disk,
on every single one of them. These are DVD-RW, and that's what I've used in
the past. I don't get it, can anyone tell me what the heck I'm doing
differently? Before the reformat, I was burning them just fine..

Thanks for any help!!

I have used several different ones.. it depends on what the customer wants..
I do use amd processors though I hate intel they suck if you ask me.. so the
boards I use are all ones that will support amd processors.. I use msi and
asus motherboards for the most part though if that is what your asking...

oh ya our computers get lots of use so they go through a lot of burners...
the thing that really sucks is how many disc we go through and how expensive
they are. the cost of the burner is not great but the disc cost a lot
more..lol.. Crazyhorse.

I see. Well I worked for DFI support for three years and build gaming PCs
myself. But I'm into very high end overclocking stuff. I use to be a AMD fan
boy myself tills intal kicked AM2 ass so bad that they cant even compete
with Intel now. Ive moved to intsal when the 775 came out. Most of my build
are 4.0+ GHz

Heres my wireless builds

I have used several different ones.. it depends on what the customer wants..
I do use amd processors though I hate intel they suck if you ask me.. so the
boards I use are all ones that will support amd processors.. I use msi and
asus motherboards for the most part though if that is what your asking...

Crazyhorse.

If you have a service contract on your computer, call the company and they
will send a new disk drive for free. I have dell and had to replace both of
mine and they did it free of charge, even sent a tech to do it for me.

LOL. ya I need to but I need a few so I will wait till they will not burn
anymore.. they still burn fine you just have use a paper clip or something
like it to poke in the hole to open the drawer..lol. it is a pain in the ass
but as long as it still burns I can't see spending the kind of money I will
have to spend to replace all of them.. I have 4 computers and all 4 of them
have worn out drawer openers in them..lol. oh and they each have 2 burners
in them so ya that is 8 total burners that need to be replaced so it is not
going to be cheap but one day they will all get replaced when the will not
burn anymore..

Re: Windows 7 FULL 32 & 64 bit versions - Activated

Posted by: "Carlton" ch5847@gmail.com   cahow2002

Sun Mar 21, 2010 10:39 pm (PDT)

Yes you can do an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. Vista is the only
operating system that this can be
done. http://windows.microsoft
com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7
I would not advise doing it though. We actually experimented doing this with
a ripped version of Windows 7
that was suppose to be activated on install. It worked fine except for one
thing. A message appeared in the
right just above the taskbar that stated it was not a genuine copy of
Windows 7, so I would advise only doing
this with a version that is bought and paid for. We did not bother to go
back and see if we could correct and
activate it some other way. We just did a fresh install at that point. I'm
sure that if a bought version is used that you can do it from within Windows
Vista. In other words let your computer boot into Windows and you can
install it from there or
you can let the cd open on re-boot and choose the Save Your Files method.
The one thing I do agree on is if
you are having any problems with whatever operating system you are using the
best thing to do is a fresh
install. In fact, I would wipe my hard drive and then install the program
because even if you choose the second
method by not saving any files, the install still picks up items from the
older version. You will see a folder on your C:drive
that is called Windows Old. This will come from your older version and
should be deleted. You will also find
things in the C:\Program Files folder that was on your old system. If they
are games or programs that you downloaded
they will need to be deleted also. They will not work. Just make sure that
you don't delete any new files from
here that is installed for Windows 7. The good thing is that anything that
is just on the C:drive that you might
have downloaded and installed that is not in the Program Files folder or the
Windows Old folder generally
will still work. So all this being said, I would not upgrade Vista with a
ripped copy of Windows 7 unless
somebody has proof that it works. I would upgrade without any doubt from a
bought copy. If I was having any
problems with my Vista operating system at all, I would wipe my hard drive
and do a fresh install. Thanks!

And Id recommend any one doing an OS install OF any kind for any reason.
To do a fresh install. That's why your doing an install because you think
Theres something wrong.
You can NOT do an upgrade from vista to win 7 you have to do a clean install

im not sure what frash is but no you don't need to do a fresh install unless
you think you have viruses and then i'd recommend it.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on about 15 computers or more. Not once
have I had to go look for
a driver. Once it is installed and it opens I already have Internet access.
Then do a Windows Update and the
rest of the drivers come down in the update. That's just another reason that
Windows 7 is just a great
operating system. I do agree with one thing I saw posted. Stick with the 32
bit version. It does not cause the problems that the 64 bit version does
with trying to run older programs, not to mention the problems that Pando
users have had using that version.

the copy i sent is ok to upgrade with or a fresh install. if you ever want
to reformat then that will erase everything on your hard drive. if you are
referring to the system recovery that boughten computers come with then you
still don't need to worry because once you start that process it doesn't
matter whats on the hard drive because it'll restore it to the original file
system that you got with your computer. with this os drivers isn't much of
an issue and there's always the www to get them from.

I agree W-7 is the best I build and repair computers also and Billy Bob finally got it together.Use the 32 bit on a clean install. In now_showing@yahoogroups.com, "Carlton" <ch5847@...> wrote:

I have also installed in in many computers and not had any problems for the
most part.. I will say there are a few older systems that you do not get the
drivers for everything and it can be a real pain to find them but most of
the time they are out there unless there is something that is too old to
have updated drivers for it.. I had one that had integrated sound and it
found that and said it was good to go but it turned out the integrated sound
did not work so a pci sound card was installed and it did not find that and
once I done the upgrade there was no drivers for the sound card so the card
had to be replaced.. but yes for the most part all the drivers are going to
be found and installed for you without any problems.. I am working on an
upgrade right now on another computer next to me and it is an older sony
vaio and there was not an upgrade for the sound drivers for it but I was
able to find one that did work but it took me a while to find one that would
work for it.. so ya it can also be a pain but not normally.. as for the 32
bit vs the 64 bit.. ya the 32 bit is a much better choice if you ask me.. I
have the 64 bit on this system but I have the 32 bit on all my other systems
& would tell anyone that is not a big time gamer to go with the 32 bit
version it is much easier to find programs for and almost anything that ran
on an xp os will run on a 32 bit version of windows7.. the only disadvantage
if the 64 bit I really see is you have to use the 32 bit browser to run
flash other than that there really is not much of a difference.. 32 bit is
the way to go though...

Yeah lets teach good habits to users. And good habits Is always do a clean
new install.

Yes you can do an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. Vista is the only
operating system that this can be
done. http://windows.microsoft
com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7
I would not advise doing it though. We actually experimented doing this with
a ripped version of Windows 7
that was suppose to be activated on install. It worked fine except for one
thing. A message appeared in the
right just above the taskbar that stated it was not a genuine copy of
Windows 7, so I would advise only doing
this with a version that is bought and paid for. We did not bother to go
back and see if we could correct and
activate it some other way. We just did a fresh install at that point. I'm
sure that if a bought version is used that you can do it from within Windows
Vista. In other words let your computer boot into Windows and you can
install it from there or
you can let the cd open on re-boot and choose the Save Your Files method.
The one thing I do agree on is if
you are having any problems with whatever operating system you are using the
best thing to do is a fresh
install. In fact, I would wipe my hard drive and then install the program
because even if you choose the second
method by not saving any files, the install still picks up items from the
older version. You will see a folder on your C:drive
that is called Windows Old. This will come from your older version and
should be deleted. You will also find
things in the C:\Program Files folder that was on your old system. If they
are games or programs that you downloaded
they will need to be deleted also. They will not work. Just make sure that
you don't delete any new files from
here that is installed for Windows 7. The good thing is that anything that
is just on the C:drive that you might
have downloaded and installed that is not in the Program Files folder or the
Windows Old folder generally
will still work. So all this being said, I would not upgrade Vista with a
ripped copy of Windows 7 unless
somebody has proof that it works. I would upgrade without any doubt from a
bought copy. If I was having any
problems with my Vista operating system at all, I would wipe my hard drive
and do a fresh install. Thanks!

And Id recommend any one doing an OS install OF any kind for any reason.
To do a fresh install. That's why your doing an install because you think
Theres something wrong.
You can NOT do an upgrade from vista to win 7 you have to do a clean install

im not sure what frash is but no you don't need to do a fresh install unless
you think you have viruses and then i'd recommend it.

Wasn't sending it to you, but I have put it on about 20 computers and
everyone is totally happy with it.
My brother-in-law who owns his on computer business and was putting AVG free
on all his customers computers switched to Microsoft Security Essentials and
is now using it on all of his customers computers. Very good and is ranked
high with the one's that are usually paid for. Does not require
a lot of memory like Norton, McAfee and others do and since installing it on
my computers last October I have not had one problem. Catches everything
with Windows Defender coming with it. Thanks!
