are you sure it isn't codec's missing???
try downloading free gom player
www.gomplayer.com
after you download, open it, click on the gom in the upper left corner, go to preferences, down to options, click on select all and close then try to play and see what happens.

The hard drive was reformatted. Running system restore won't install drivers
that were never there. A program like Driver Genius or Driver Magician will
generally solve issues like this.

check with your system provider they usually have back up of the drivers. if all else fells go to driver-guide.com there a good chance they will have it.
